I haven't been playing much music recently, as Plastic Palace has been gig free since the launch last month, and half of Potential Falcon is away in Canada at the moment, with Alex and the Ramps. So I haven't had much to talk about really.
Next week we're going to be putting down some drums and bass for a few new songs, some of which have been kicking around for close to a year now. Anyone who's heard us live over that time will have heard "Carrion", which has pretty much been the default loud song ever since we got it gig-ready last April. "Harvest Song" is from around August, I think, though I can't remember the first time we played it. It's the one with the electronic drums in it. I haven't been that happy with it in a way, but we recorded it live on PBS last week and it sounded surprisingly good. It can get a bit hard to tell how good something is from the stage perspective.
More recently, we've started playing "No Shame", and "Zeitgeist Blues" in most of our sets: No Shame pretty much instantly became my favourite song in our repertoire, and Zeitgeist is growing on me, though it took a lot of work to fuse all the elements together.
With those four songs we hope that at least one of them will turn out to be radio friendly. As so little of our album was, other than Empire Falls, and the brutal edit of Karaoking.
It will be fun to record with the band, as I joined after the album was already in the can last year. It should be a fun process, particularly as these songs still have some arranging to do. Hopefully I'll be able to link to them soon, or at least keep you posted on the process.
